Singapore for the first time.

Singapore is one of the cleanest and safest cities in Southeast Asia. It is popularly known for having strict laws and enforcing these to the fullest. Violators will be slapped with stiff fines and penalties depending on the gravity of the offense, so tourists must be aware of these laws. Traffic is also not a problem in Singapore. One factor that boosts a country’s economy is having an efficient transit system which Singapore has.

An aspiring vlogger and friend, Svean recently traveled to Singapore for the first time and she excitedly shared her experience with us. Traveling with a group of eight people with children, her advice is to get a travel package which includes airfare and tour to get around the city and its popular spots. One thing I mentioned in my blog “How to sustain a budget travel lifestyle” is to visit travel expos and look for the best if not the cheapest travel package. It also saves you time and effort to book for a destination. This is what Svean did when there was a travel expo in Manila. They purchased a 4days and 3nights travel package from a local travel agency in Manila called Skywin Travel. The original plan was to get a travel package to Japan however the price is too steep and they also have to apply for a visa so they settled going to Singapore instead which offers free tourist visa up to 30 days. But Singapore is also not cheap. It is an expensive city to travel and live in. It just happened that the price is more reasonable.

How to sustain a budget travel lifestyle?

Places to go to

Universal Studios

A blast from the past experience with thrilling rides and amazing shows await you here at Universal Studios. There are lots of indoor and outdoor rides and activities to choose from. You might as well spend the whole day here to try and experience everything this place has to offer.  One unforgettable moment Svean shared with us is The Mummy experience which she said is full of surprises. That one I have to check out soon. I have been to Universal Studios Los Angeles and it was really an awesome experience. I am not sure if the iconic Waterworld show and Jurassic Park ride is also available at Universal Studios Singapore.

Sea Aquarium

Not far from Universal Studios is the Sea Aquarium located at Resorts World Sentosa. You can visit this place if you’re not spending the whole day at Universal Studios. This place is home to over 100,000 marine animals of different species spread over 50 habitats.

Singapore Zoo and River Safari

Singapore Zoo is a 26-hectare wildlife park, home to over 300 species of mammals, birds and reptiles. It features 11 zones, each taking you through some of the most distinctive global wildlife habitats in the world.

River Safari is the first river themed wildlife park in Asia. It features freshwater attractions and river boat rides as its main highlights. The park consists of a total of 10 different ecosystems around the world. One of the main attractions is a pair of male and female giant pandas at the Giant Panda Forest.

Marina Bay

Exploring Marina Bay will give you a glimpse of spectacular architectural works. It represents modern and super stylish leisure spots. You and your family will be mesmerized by the waterfront views at the Gardens by the Bay.  In the evening, catch the sky show of choreographed lights and sounds at the Garden Rhapsody amidst the Supertrees. Marvel at some of the best views in the world at Sands SkyPark at Marina Bay Sands.

ArtScience Museum

ArtScience Museum is located within the resort of Marina Bay Sands. The lotus flower inspired design museum has 21 gallery spaces with a total area of 50,000 square feet (6,000 square meters).

Merlion Park

Merlion Park is a major tourist attraction in Singapore. It shows the head of a lion and the body of a fish. The head represents Singapore's original name, Singapura or "lion city" and the body symbolizes Singapore's humble beginnings as a fishing village.

Orchard Road

Orchard Road is Singapore’s retail district, with discount outlets, department stores and upscale boutiques, alongside luxury hotels. It is a 2.2 kilometer long stretch of retail and entertainment tourist attraction in Singapore.

VivoCity

VivoCity is the largest shopping mall in Singapore. This is one place to buy gifts and souvenirs for your family and friends back home.

Bugis Junction

Bugis Junction is a part indoor department store and part open air shopping street. It is one of Singapore's key shopping destinations. It is also where you can find cheaper merchandise and souvenirs.

The total cost of the trip is Php22000/person (USD440.00) which I think is quite reasonable since the group flew to Singapore via Singapore Airlines and they stayed at the 3-star Oxford Hotel.

But if you're a budget traveler, you can cut the cost down by 30%-35% and still enjoy and experience Singapore at its finest and still have some change left.
