The first time I’ve seen the term 'laptop lifestyle' was from an Instagram profile of a travel blogger/friend. In the profile it reads “Live the Laptop Lifestyle” and there is a link that leads you to a website. Basically it is an invitation for friends to visit the site. It will show you tips on how to manage your time and resources well with the means of a laptop and a reliable internet connection. But the most interesting part of it is it will show you how to make money online whenever and wherever you are.
Imagine doing online tasks or managing your business while in the mall, while sipping hot espresso at your favorite cafe and even better under the shade of the palm trees at the beach. Isn’t that cool?
I know someone who ditched his office job and started an online shopping business. He communicates with his customers and track orders and deliveries online with the use of his laptop and internet anywhere he might be. I also read the story of an employee who started an online travel agency with a measly capital and how it became a multi million dollar business. There is also a couple who signed up on Upwork, a global freelancing platform and posted their profiles. They soon started working as freelancers for 2-3 employers each and now earning twice as much compared to what they were getting before as staff in a multinational company.
After hearing or reading all of their successful stories, some people are inspired and motivated to try while others are not as eager or hesitant to do it because a steady income is more practical nowadays especially if you have plenty of bills to pay and recurring expenses.
But in this digital world we are now living in, there are more opportunities opening up on how to be a digital nomad, an online entrepreneur, a virtual assistant and all of them are living the laptop lifestyle. There are employers who prefer virtual assistants to get the job done and the good thing is job turnover is fast, assuring you of more prospective clients to work for. A lot of people are also engaging now in online shopping.
Is laptop lifestyle for you?
Living
the laptop lifestyle is not as simple as you think. Accuracy and
productivity are always the primary concern in each task. Every work
requires skills that are relevant to the job offer and other task
involves long term contracts.
People
tend to be stress out while living the laptop lifestyle and that is not
what it is supposed to be. Bear in mind, you left your 9-5 job in the
first place due to stress perhaps from the traffic to and from your
workplace or catching up on a deadline that demands long working hours,
and now you get stress out as well from working at the comfort of your
own home? One major reason this happen is because it is not easy to find
online work right away.
There
are plenty of jobs out there but you lack the experience of working
online and if you don’t have this important tool yet, do not expect a
high salary.
Lastly, try to hone your skills and work on to make your profile as candid as possible.
