Patungan Cove in Maragondon, Cavite

If there is a full house at Katungkulan Beach or Boracay de Cavite and when you think that going to Nasugbu via Nasugbu-Ternate Highway seems far, then you might as well check out Patungan Cove in Maragondon Cavite.

Just several kilometers away from Boracay de Cavite and after passing through KayBiang Tunnel, you can reach Patungan Cove. The place is  located in Barangay Mercedes in Maragondon Cavite where a legal battle of ownership is ongoing between a private corporation and residents of the area.  The public beach is located on the farther side of the area where you have to pass through a privately owned land. And since this area is off limits to outsiders, you need to ride a small motorized boat to reach the public beach. The boat ride is less than 10 minutes and costs Php 50.00/person for the round trip fare. I noticed that some boat operators have no life vests for their passengers and that is one thing to improve on. The residents also make a brisk business by making small and big cottages for their guests to rent which ranges from Php1000.00 to Php2500.00. It already has an electricity and charcoal grill is also available. They also have karaoke and videoke machines for rent. Shower rooms and rest rooms are also available. There is also a variety store for your needs.

Patungan beach boasts of its long shoreline and light gray sand. However, there is no other sports activities aside from volleyball to engaged in. I also saw some empty plastic bottles and paper cups littered on the beach front. The water is not crystal clear and there are jellyfishes in some parts of the beach. A good thing is I didn't experience any rocky portions while walking through the beach. The residents themselves must make ways to promote cleanliness by disseminating information on proper trash disposal and put nets to prevent the jellyfish from entering the area where you can find people frolicking in the water.

Overall, Patungan beach is good but needs improvement to attract more tourists. The ongoing conflict of ownership should not create difficulty for the beach goers who just want to relax and have fun. The local government of Maragondon should help and find ways that will be beneficial to everyone.

This cottage is ideal for a whole day stay, if you prefer to spend the night at Patungan Beach, you can rent a closed cottage for Php2500.00.
